Introduction to Architecture Summer Program

People contemplating a career in architecture, or even those who would simply like to indulge their passion for it, should consider the Exploration in Architecture program. This rigorous six-week exploration requires no specialized knowledge or back-ground, just a serious interest in design.

During this intensive course, students spend the mornings exploring architectural principles such as composition, history, preservation, landscape architecture, planning and urban design. In addition, they delve into the nuts and bolts of architecture, including building construction, structures, acoustics, lighting, energy conservation and sustainability. Throughout these discussions, the class also will consider the cultural, social and political factors involved.

Students spend afternoons in the architecture studio, putting into practice the information learned in the mornings. Tackling a major design problem is the core of this part of the exploration program. Small design-studio seminars, intensive individual instruction, and regular progress reviews will help prepare for a final project presentation.
