The Boathouse: A Dynamic Response to Erosion, First Year Studio Arch 101.
Using topographic lines of the site plan (Cayuga Lake) as guides, I constructed a layered grid using tissue paper and basswood. I added water to the tissue paper, and as the water evaporated, the tissue paper shrank causing deformations in the wooden grid laid over the landscape. The resulting scalar and linear deformations characterize the water’s interaction with the land through history, erosion, run-off and wave action. These reconstructions of the landscape were exploited to inform the boathouse and its association with the hydrologic forces acting on the site.
