Arturo Ignacio Sánchez is a native of Bogotá, Colombia. He has taught at Pratt Institute Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and the Environment; Columbia University; Barnard College; New York University; LaGuardia Community College; Universidad de Bogotá; and La Universidad de Santo Tomas in Bogotá.

Mr. Sánchez has also served as policy analyst for the New York City Mayor’s Office of Education Services, multi-campus administrator with the Vice Chancellor of Urban Affairs of the City University of New York (CUNY), and director of student recruitment at Hostos Community College, CUNY.

He has worked as a community-based activist on immigration and economic development issues, served for 10 years as a member of Queens Community Board 3, and has been a member of the Planners Network Advisory Committee.

  • Presenter on April 12, 2008 at the Cornell Conference: Colombian Migration: Transnational, Political, and Cultural Perspectives. Topic: “Colombian Migration to Jackson Heights, New York: The Politics and Geographical Scales of Immigrant Demonization and the Built Environment”
  • Organized, with Professor Jeff Chusid of historic preservation, a mid-career professional workshop on historic preservation and changing demographics in Jackson heights, New York. Workshop held in New York City in June 2008.
