Eligibility and Application Process

Eligibility
Applicants must
  • Have an interest in public policies designed to promote the health and welfare of New York City's poorest citizens and communities
  • Have a deep commitment to strengthening one's individual reciprocal-learning and collaborative-research skills
  • Have the desire to explore professional opportunities with the network of community organizations and municipal/state agencies serving low-income children, families, and communities in New York City

  • Be able to devote oneself full-time to collaborative-research activities in New York City during an eight-week period in June and July
  • Be willing to enroll in a one-credit graduate seminar on participatory research methods prior to pursuing research in New York City

Application Process
ALL of the following documents must be received at 108 West Sibley Hall by December:
  • A completed application cover sheet
  • A copy of an up-to-date graduate record transcript
  • Preliminary Self-Designed Research Proposal (see Part IIa)
  • A letter of recommendation from your academic adviser or department chair that confirms your ability to function as a self-directed learner and participant in a challenging collaborative research endeavor
  • A letter of commitment from a member of the graduate faculty in your field of study indicating their willingness to supervise your New York City field research
  • A letter from a community-based organization or municipal/state agency serving low-income children, families, or communities in New York City, indicating their desire to have you work with their agency as a research partner
  • Evidence of having completed the online tutorial and test for human subjects review
  • Evidence of having completed or being enrolled in at least two courses in research methods or research design
  • Your up-to-date CV/resume
