AAP NYC Facilities

Our Space and the Chelsea Neighborhood
AAP NYC provides an extraordinary home base, located within one of Manhattan’s largest concentrations of galleries, architecture firms, and artist studios. Eateries, boutiques, markets, and book and art supply stores abound in the neighborhood. Near Union Square students can enjoy park space, outdoor dining, and connections to most subway lines within a two-block walk.

Bright, expansive, and versatile, with moving walls accommodating the needs of varying combinations of students from all three departments, the AAP NYC loft hosts student groups ranging in size from 12 to 50 and public lectures with up to 150 people. Events open to the larger metropolitan and Cornell alumni community are scheduled throughout the term, and students are encouraged to participate.

Resources
The center is equipped with wireless Internet access, desktop computers, scanners, and laser and large-format printers — all available to students in residence. There are also a small tool shop for model making and art projects, a VLS 460 laser cutter with Purex 850 filter, and a selection of New York City history books and maps. Additionally, students can borrow books from the on-campus libraries in Ithaca at no cost. All students are strongly encouraged to bring a laptop.
The AAP NYC center is staffed by a full-time coordinator — an expert in programming logistics and a valuable resource for information about New York City and all its dimensions.

Hours
The center is open from approximately 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. daily for student participants, and visitors are welcome from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. weekdays.
