John Hartell Gallery

In 1982 the College honored long-time professor of architecture and art, John Hartell, by naming the gallery in Sibley Dome after him for his extraordinary contributions to both disciplines at Cornell. Hartell joined the architecture faculty in 1930 and the art faculty in 1940, and served as chair of the art department from 1940 until 1959.

Olive Tjaden Gallery
In 1983, after undergoing extensive renovation, the College’s art building was renamed the Olive Tjaden Hall in honor of Olive Tjaden Van Sickle ’25, a pioneering female architect and graduate of the college. In addition, the newly-created gallery in Tjaden was named the Olive Tjaden Gallery. Van Sickle, who died in March 1997, financed the renovation of Tjaden and the creation of the gallery.

Experimental Gallery
This alternative exhibition space, located in 102 Tjaden Hall, was converted into a gallery for the fall semester. Although the room is used primarily for classes, the College will continue to consider it for future exhibits.
