Cornell in Rome provides furnished and well-maintained apartments of varying sizes in some of the most sought after neighborhoods of Rome. Distributed through out the Centro Storico (historic city center) and Trastevere in characteristic Roman apartment buildings, dating from the late 1800's and early 1900's, these apartments give students the opportunity to experience typical Italian neighborhoods, as well as the chance to discover all the best places for pasta, pastries and gelato. All apartments are located within a five to twenty-minute walk from classes and studio spaces at the Palazzo Lazzaroni and are well connected to public transportation.
Each apartment is completely furnished with kitchen, laundry equipment, linens, blankets and pillows, and are regularly checked throughout the semester by program staff members to ensure that good working order is maintained.
Rent for a double room totals $3,400 for the semester, including utilities, and is payable to the Office of the Bursar. Assignments are made in the Ithaca office before departure. Students can request roommates (as most apartments are rented with two to a bedroom) as well as apartment mates, and the program will make every effort to accommodate such requests. A limited number of single rooms also are available. Confirmations are made before departure for Rome.
A security deposit of $200 is added to the student’s bursar bill. This deposit, minus any outstanding charges (such as for damages or lost keys) is returned to the student during the semester following their return from Rome. Students also are free to arrange for their own housing. (Students who find alternative housing after their reservation has been confirmed will forfeit their security deposit.)
