Benjamin Gilmartin is an associate with Diller Scofidio + Renfro in New York City where he has lead redevelopment projects at the Lincoln Center campus since 2004. The focus of his design research in that studio has been on architecture’s integration of dynamic media in public spaces. Gilmartin attended the Harvard Graduate School of Design and received a Master of Architecture Degree in 1997. Prior to that he received Bachelors of Arts degrees in both Architecture and English Literature from the University of California-Berkeley in 1992. Since 2000, he has been both editor and contributor to Praxis: Journal of Writing + Building. He has taught at AAP NYC since the founding of its NYC program in 2006. Prior to joining Diller Scofidio + Renfro, he worked with the Polshek Partnership for five years. He is a registered architect in the state of New York and a member of the AIA. His recent projects with Diller Scofidio + Renfro include the design of the chamber music space Alice Tully Hall, opening in early 2009, which appeared as part of the 2006 Skin and Bones exhibition at the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art. Currently he is completing design the Lincoln Center Promenade Project, scheduled for completion in October 2009, which includes the iconic public spaces of the Fountain Plaza and Grandstair at Columbus Avenue.
