M.Arch. (Professional) 2007
I am a member of Cornell’s first M.Arch. (Professional) class, and I am currently entering my third year of graduate study. The professional master of architecture program exposes students to an extremely wide range of design projects. The first-year studios focused on designs for single-family homes and communal living. The second year brought with it the challenge of creating an urban scheme for a location outside of Jerusalem and a design for a high-rise college in Manhattan. For this second project, our class traveled to Grimshaw’s offices in NYC, where their architects and engineers worked with us as consultants during the development of our designs. This unique studio bridged a gap between education and practice, and samples of our class work were published in a recent issue of "A+U."
There also are many opportunities to be found outside of studio. Currently, I serve on the AAP Building Advisory Committee and have met with Rem Koolhaas and other members of OMA to discuss the design of Cornell’s new AAP facilities. I also have been able to work as a teaching assistant for undergraduate courses, and this coming semester I will be an architectural team leader for Cornell’s 2007 Solar Decathlon Team. This constant involvement outside of the classroom has been essential to my education at Cornell.
