For me the original impetus for making a picture is the suggestion of the erotic I find in natural forms. This practice examines the female form, both natural and constructed, as sites of social and cultural meaning. The work is an exploration of my histories as woman and body. It probes the intersection of the sexual and spiritual while engendering new meaning through the assembly and juxtaposition of cultural symbols.

Quote

To teach fine arts and the creative process is to excite, inspire, and empower the student to understand and believe she has the ability and resources both intellectual and technical to produce a visual statement . . . At once coherent and creative and quite possibly individual and original.

research

My artistic practice questions how one comes to know and interpret oneself and on what basis visual representations are constructed. To do this I draw on the visual and historic traditions/remnants of past cultures. I am fascinated by the use of and reuse of symbol and artifact, of ideology and convention, from one civilization to the next.
