Sherene Baugher is an archaeologist/anthropologist and associate professor at Cornell University in the Department of Landscape Architecture. She is also affiliated with Cornell's Department of City and Regional Planning and the Archaeology Program. (She is the Director of the Archaeology Program.) From 1980 to 1990, she served as the first official archaeologist for the City of New York. Her research interests cover the cultural landscapes and community design of both Native Americans and Euro-Americans. She is interested in issues of status, class, and ethnicity. Baugher works with planners, preservationists, and Native Americans to excavate and preserve endangered Indian, colonial, and 19th century archaeological sites.
