M.R.P. Regional Planning 2010
Chris believes that the placement of locally undesirable land use (LULU) sites needs to go beyond economic and cost benefit justification. He sees this practice as historically being one of the main factors contributing to environmental justice issues in cities. Chris’s focus is brownfield development. He believes that exploring new ways to reuse contaminated properties — beyond large mixed-use — can help to reduce the negative externalities that past land-use decisions have caused.
Along this same thread, Chris loves touring industrial facilities, from creameries to quarries. He is interested in the industrial process and the links and players that connect the product to the market. “I think in order to truly understand the facts behind contaminated land and industrial land-use decisions, you must first understand the industrial process and the HOWs and WHYs behind the decisions made by these companies.” Chris also enjoys backpacking in the various backcountries of the U.S. and is currently maintaining an abusive love-hate relationship with three-and-a-half bicycles.
