Student Profile

Himalay Verma

M.R.P. Regional Planning 2007

Himalay Verma is passionate about rural development. His one-point agenda has brought him to Cornell. His earlier work as an architect on affordable housing in Bihar and Jharkhand in India brought him face to face with poverty in the region. That is when he decided to pursue further education to acquire skills for regional development.

Himalay chose Cornell over many other leading universities because of our distinguished programs in international planning, sustainable enterprise, and international agriculture development. Himalay believes strongly that Bihar, often called the fourth world, has a huge, untapped potential of manpower and agro-industry.

At Cornell he is working on a business plan for the development of agro-industries in Bihar for the sustainable economic development of the region. His meeting with Mr. Ratan Tata, chair of the biggest business conglomerate in India, who was at Cornell recently, has reinforced his ideas about the potential of rural India and the role of responsible private enterprise in development. He is a regular practitioner of yoga for self-development in his pursuit for excellence.
