Tremayne (Trey) Waller has been named the new associate director of advising and diversity for Cornell University’s College of Architecture, Art, and Planning (AAP). He will begin on August 17, 2009.
Waller’s responsibilities will include working with faculty advisors and college staff to plan and oversee academic support for AAP undergraduate students; providing counseling on academic, personal issues and professional development; coordinating mid-semester progress checks for AAP students; and conducting outreach programs and workshops. He will also coordinate special advising and support for AAP multicultural students and facilitate interaction between AAP multicultural students, faculty, and staff.
Waller comes to Cornell from a position as the director of pre-college initiatives in the Center for the Enhancement of Engineering Diversity at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (VPI) in Blacksburg, Virginia. In March 2009, he received the Minority Engineering Program Director of the Year Golden Torch Award from the National Society of Black Engineers.
Waller obtained his B.S. from Averett University and has an M.S. in counseling and human development from Radford University, and a Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction with a certificate in race and social policy from VPI.
