Thomas Saaty, professor of business administration at the University of Pittsburgh and author of over 300 articles and 33 books on decision making, operations research, and mathematics, was a guest lecturer for CRP’s Distinguished Visitors Lecture Series on September 25 in Lewis Auditorium.
“Resolution of Retributive Conflicts,” one of Saaty’s seminal papers on analytic hierarchy process (AHP), was the topic of his presentation shared with the Cornell community. Saaty is the inventor and primary theoretician of the decision theory, AHP, and its generalization to feedback — the analytic network process to deal with decision making, weapons tradeoffs, and recourse allocation. His professional resume includes 15 years conducting government-sponsored research, some of which was used by the Arms Control and Disarmament Agency at the U.S. State Department. His current research includes decision making, planning, conflict resolution, and neural synthesis.
