Jeffrey Blanchard studied the History of Art and Architecture at Stanford University (B.A. 1973), the Università di Firenze (Fulbright Fellow, 1974), and Yale University (M.Phil. 1977), specializing in the Italian Renaissance. He won a Rome Prize Fellowship to the American Academy (1978-79) and has resided in Rome ever since, where he has dedicated himself principally to teaching and academic administration for American study programs.

In 1988, Blanchard began teaching courses in Renaissance and Baroque Architecture and Art for Cornell in Rome, where he subsequently became Academic Coordinator in 1994. He has organized and conducted numerous field trips for Cornell in Rome, as well as for Cornell’s Adult University.
