Even after nearly 10 years, I am still convinced I have one of the best jobs in the College, and it’s because of my close interaction with students from all three of our departments. Our students are extraordinary – they’re not just very bright and creative thinkers, they’re also genuinely good, nice kids who are a real pleasure to work with.

I meet them all as freshmen and get to know many long before preparations for their Rome semester begins. Then I work closely with them the semester before they go to Rome, and we continue our friendships and share our love for Italy after their return. This is why graduation each year fills me with very mixed emotions – joy for them, yet true sadness to see them leave us. Our College has without a doubt a particularly special group of young adults, and I see this consistently year after year with each freshmen class.

work

Margherita Fabrizio works as the director of Cornell in Rome and the College's newly launched AAP NYC program. She has worked with the College for the last 10 years. As an Italian-American and dual citizen, she brings a deep personal interest and love of helping students discover Italy and the importance of spending a semester abroad to this particular part of her position.

Margherita oversees all aspects of daily management of both off-campus programs, including planning and development, recruitment, publicity, and student services. She provides the bridge between the programs in Rome and New York City and the faculty steering committee, Rome and New York staff and faculty, and participating faculty and students on campus.

Margherita has worked as a free-lance photographer and garden designer. She has also held many varied administrative positions prior to coming to AAP, from campaign manager for a NYS legislative race, to manager and legal assistant for Ithaca's former city prosecutor's office, where she regularly worked closely with victims of domestic violence. Margherita also managed a campaign for childcare as well as an effort to block hydropower development on a beloved local landmark. She recently exhibited a multi-year photographic project in the College's Hartell Gallery. She has lived in Ithaca 26 years.
