I emphasize the necessity for students to make material and procedural choices that are suggested by their conceptual and pictorial ambitions. It is essential, in my opinion, that students research the production of historical as well as contemporary practitioners, and to test their own methods against them.

I have conducted research into the physical properties of artists materials, utilizing analytical facilities in the departments of Material Science and Engineering, and Nuclear Science and Engineering at Cornell. Current interests relate to narrative (cinematic) structures realized through paintings and photographs.
